Part of our guide: Capsule Wardrobe · Pre-Loved Designer Fashion
A capsule wardrobe sounds like a trend, but it is really just a plan. You decide what you wear, you choose pieces that work together, and you stop buying things that do not earn their place. Pre-loved makes it affordable.
Step 1: Audit what you own
Take everything out and sort it into three piles: wear all the time, wear sometimes, never wear. Look at the first pile. That is your style, whether you meant it or not.
Step 2: Pick a palette
Choose two or three neutrals and one or two accent colours. Navy, black, cream and camel are a classic base. Everything should work with at least three other pieces.
Step 3: List the gaps
Write down what is missing. A blazer that fits? A good coat? A dress that works for events? Only buy to fill a gap.
Step 4: Shop pre-loved
For each gap, search pre-loved first. Quality pieces are much cheaper second-hand, and you can learn which labels to trust in our label guide. Always read condition and descriptions before you buy.
Step 5: Add a few statement pieces
Capsule does not mean boring. One bold coat or standout dress gives the wardrobe personality.
A sample capsule
If you are not sure where to begin, aim for roughly this: two blazers or jackets, three bottoms, four tops or shirts, two dresses, one coat and one pair of versatile shoes. You can build outfits from these dozens of ways, and each piece can be bought pre-loved.
How to keep it going
Choose a rule such as “one in, one out” so the wardrobe does not creep back to overflowing. When you buy something, ask which three outfits you could make with it. If you cannot name them, leave it.
Step 6: Review each season
Remove what you did not wear, and pass it on. Rachel’s whole approach is built on this: wear it, love it, then let someone else enjoy it.
